Dream Shapers Foundation Leads Land Reclamation Drive in Eastern Region’s Mining Zones

The Dream Shapers Foundation (DSF) has completed a major land reclamation and community training project in illegal mining zones across Akim and Ayirebi, bringing renewed hope to degraded lands and affected communities in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
The project, which ran from February 2023 to August 2024, focused on tree planting, soil rehabilitation, and environmental education to restore areas devastated by illegal mining activities. Through strategic collaboration with local authorities, traditional leaders, and environmental stakeholders, DSF trained hundreds of community members in sustainable land management and afforestation techniques.
Speaking at the closing phase of the initiative, DSF project coordinators emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental restoration. “True sustainability begins when the people most affected by environmental degradation become active participants in its restoration,” one of the facilitators noted.
The training sessions covered a wide range of topics including nursery establishment, tree planting, soil conservation, and post-planting maintenance. Participants also received practical demonstrations and materials to begin restoration work within their own communities.
The once-barren and scarred landscapes of Ayirebi are gradually being transformed into thriving green spaces — a visible testament to DSF’s commitment to healing the environment and empowering local people. The Foundation reiterated its call for stronger enforcement of mining regulations and continuous support for community-based reclamation programs.
As part of its broader vision, Dream Shapers Foundation continues to lead initiatives that link environmental sustainability, youth empowerment, and livelihood restoration, reaffirming its slogan: “Bringing Hope to All.”
