Ghana Seeks Special Visa Arrangements for 2026 FIFA World Cup Fans

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the Ghana national football team’s qualification has prompted Ghana to initiate diplomatic talks aimed at ensuring its supporters can travel smoothly across the three host nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, together with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has opened discussions with the U.S. Embassy and the Canadian High Commission to explore special visa arrangements for Ghanaian fans, team officials and delegates. 

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the meetings aim to “enhance coordination, improve visa facilitation and develop clear working road-maps” across Ghana and the host countries. 

One outcome already highlighted is the recent reversal by the U.S. of its single-entry visa policy for Ghanaians—a move that allows for multiple-entry visas, enabling Ghanaian fans to travel between the U.S., Canada and Mexico during the tournament. 

A meeting with Mexican diplomatic representatives is also scheduled to complete the trio of host nations.
