Kevin Okyere fraud case: Springfield Group CEO faces international investigations
Kevin Okyere, a prominent Ghanaian business executive and Founder of the Springfield Group, an indigenous African energy conglomerate, was reportedly arrested in Dubai in connection with a US$94 million fraud complaint filed by Switzerland-based Petraco Oil Company SA.
The complaint was lodged by Petraco Oil Company SA, alleging that Okyere and his company engaged in fraudulent dealings amounting to US$94 million.
Charges extending to the United Kingdom under the Fraud Act 2006 accused Okyere of dishonestly making false representations to pay for a gasoline cargo valued at more than US$29 million.
Prosecutors claimed he knowingly misrepresented the payment with the intent of securing personal gain.
Reports indicated that Okyere failed to honor a summons to appear in a UK court, where he holds citizenship. His absence was reportedly due to fears of arrest and the possible confiscation of his passport.
Separately, Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed two active investigations involving the Springfield Group. One of these is a priority case concerning the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST). EOCO has emphasized that its policy requires investigations to be completed before any arrests are made, underscoring that proceedings remain ongoing.
It has further been reported that Okyere has been granted bail of US$20 million and barred from leaving the country pending the outcome of investigations.
