Ghana’s entertainment industry has been hit with sad news as veteran actor William Addo, popularly known as “Akpatse,” has passed away.

According to early confirmations from family sources and industry colleagues, the celebrated actor died after battling prolonged health complications that included glaucoma, cataract, and other age-related illnesses. Addo had, in recent years, appealed publicly for support to undergo urgent medical treatment.

William Addo rose to national fame through his unforgettable roles in numerous Ghanaian movies and TV series, especially during the golden era of local theatre and early Kumawood/Accra-based productions. His trademark humour, expressive acting style, and ability to embody both comic and dramatic roles earned him widespread admiration.

In addition to film, he was a respected stage actor and a long-standing member of the National Drama Company (Abibigromma) under the University of Ghana, contributing significantly to Ghana’s performing arts heritage.

Tributes have already begun pouring in from actors, producers, and fans who remember him as a warm, talented, and humble figure whose work shaped modern Ghanaian cinema.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.

May his soul rest in peace.
