Kwahumanhene Petitions IGP Over Rising Security Concerns in Kwahu Traditional Area

The Kwahumanhene (Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Area) has officially petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over growing security concerns in the Kwahu enclave, calling for urgent state intervention to prevent what he describes as a “gathering threat to peace and stability.”

Sources within the Kwahu Traditional Council confirm that the petition was delivered to the Police Headquarters in Accra following weeks of reported disturbances, suspected criminal activity, and rising community fears across several parts of Kwahu.

Security Worsening — Kwahumanhene Raises Alarm

In his petition, the Kwahumanhene expressed deep worry over:

  • Increasing cases of armed robbery
  • Rising incidents of landguard activities
  • Threats against traditional leaders
  • Growing tensions over land disputes
  • Suspicious movement of unknown groups at night

The chief noted that many residents now feel unsafe, especially in areas such as Abetifi, Mpraeso, Atibie, Obomeng and Asakraka.

“The peace and dignity of our people must be protected. The situation requires immediate police attention before it escalates,” the Kwahumanhene emphasized.

Appeal for Immediate Deployment

The petition urges the IGP, to:

  • Increase police presence across Kwahu
  • Investigate reported threats against chiefs
  • Take firm action against landguard operations
  • Strengthen patrols along major Kwahu routes
  • Protect sacred sites and stool lands
  • Restore confidence among residents

The chief believes that decisive police intervention will prevent criminal networks from taking root in the area.

Residents Demand Action

Community members have welcomed the petition, saying the situation has become too alarming to ignore.

A resident of Mpraeso told Nsemgh:

“Armed robbery cases are becoming too common. We support the chief for speaking up.”

Another resident from Obomeng added:

“We need more police checkpoints, especially at night. People are afraid.”

Police Response Expected

The Ghana Police Service is expected to issue a formal response in the coming days.
Sources indicate that the IGP has directed top security officers to study the petition and recommend rapid deployments where necessary.

A Call for Cooperation

The Kwahumanhene also called on:

  • Assembly leaders
  • Youth groups
  • Landowners
  • Traditional councils

to support security agencies and avoid acts that may escalate tensions.

He further reminded the public that security begins with community cooperation, urging residents to report suspicious activity promptly.

Kwahu’s Peace Cannot Be Compromised

Known for its tourism, Easter festivities, and vibrant business environment, the Kwahu Traditional Area plays a strategic role in the Eastern Region.

The Kwahumanhene warned that failure to address security issues now could negatively affect:

  • Tourism
  • Local businesses
  • Social stability
  • Future development prospects
