Cashew farm dispute turns violent: Berekum court remands suspect in attempted murder case

The Berekum Circuit Court has remanded Emmanuel Yeboah into police custody in connection with alleged offences of attempted murder and causing harm, following a violent attack that left two people seriously injured in the Bono Region.

The court, presided over by His Honour Osei Kofi Amoako Esq., ordered the remand to enable the police to continue investigations into the incident, which is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing family dispute over the ownership of a cashew farm.

In a press release signed by the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Police Command disclosed that the suspect was arrested on 3 January 2026, after police received a report of an attack in which two individuals sustained multiple injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Emmanuel Yeboah allegedly ambushed the victims, identified as his brother and his brother’s wife, while they were on their way to the disputed cashew farm. Police believe the attack was triggered by a protracted disagreement within the family over the farm’s ownership.

A cutlass suspected to have been used in the assault was retrieved by the police and is being held as an exhibit. The victims are currently on admission at a health facility, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Chief Inspector Akeelah confirmed that the suspect is expected to reappear before the Berekum Circuit Court on 12 January 2026, for the continuation of proceedings.

The police have used the opportunity to caution the public against resorting to violence in the resolution of land and family disputes, urging individuals to seek redress through lawful and peaceful means.
