Air Tanzania has officially commenced flight operations to Ghana, marking a significant milestone in strengthening air connectivity between East and West Africa and deepening economic, trade, and people-to-people ties across the continent.

The launch of the new route links Dar es Salaam with Accra, positioning Ghana as a key West African hub within Air Tanzania’s expanding African network. The development is expected to improve travel convenience for business travelers, tourists, students, and the growing African diaspora, while also supporting the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Industry analysts say the new service will reduce travel time and costs for passengers moving between East and West Africa, routes that previously required long layovers through Europe or the Middle East. The direct or streamlined connection is also expected to enhance cargo movement, particularly for time-sensitive goods, agribusiness products, and light manufacturing exports.

Speaking on the expansion, aviation stakeholders noted that Ghana’s selection reflects its strategic location, stable aviation environment, and growing demand for regional and intercontinental travel. Accra’s Kotoka International Airport continues to attract new airlines as West Africa’s preferred gateway.

For Ghana, the arrival of Air Tanzania complements ongoing efforts to position the country as a regional aviation and logistics hub, while supporting tourism, conferences, and cross-border investments. The route is also expected to boost inbound travel from East Africa, opening Ghana’s tourism sites, business opportunities, and cultural events to a wider African audience.

Air Tanzania, the national carrier of the United Republic of Tanzania, has in recent years expanded its fleet and network as part of a broader modernization and growth strategy. The Ghana route forms part of its push to increase intra-African connectivity in line with the African Union’s Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

Passengers on the route will benefit from Air Tanzania’s modern aircraft, competitive fares, and growing regional partnerships.

The commencement of Air Tanzania’s operations in Ghana underscores a broader shift toward stronger South–South and intra-African air links, reinforcing the vision of a more connected, integrated, and economically vibrant Africa.
