The Koforidua DVLA Roundabout is set to be renamed in honour of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, a prominent public figure and native of the Eastern Region, in recognition of his contributions to national development and public service.

The decision, which has received support from local authorities and stakeholders, is intended to acknowledge Dr. Omane Boamah’s years of service in Ghana’s political and governance landscape, as well as his connection to the people of Koforidua and the wider Eastern Region.

Dr. Omane Boamah, a medical doctor by profession, has held several key positions in government, including serving as Minister for Communications. During his tenure in public office, he was involved in policy initiatives aimed at improving digital infrastructure, public sector communication, and access to information.

According to sources close to the initiative, the renaming of the roundabout is also expected to serve as a symbol of inspiration for young people in the region, highlighting the impact of dedication, education, and public service. The DVLA Roundabout is one of the most visible and heavily used intersections in Koforidua, making it a fitting landmark for such recognition.

Residents and commuters have expressed mixed but largely positive reactions, with some welcoming the move as a way to celebrate local leadership, while others have called for broader consultations and public education ahead of the official renaming ceremony.

The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council and the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly are expected to announce further details, including the date for the unveiling and any accompanying commemorative activities.

If finalized, the renaming will add to a growing list of public spaces across Ghana that have been dedicated to individuals who have made notable contributions to national and regional development.
