Amasaman High Court Reduces Nana Agradaa’s 15-Year Sentence to 12 Months
In a significant legal development, the Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence of Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to 12 months. The court deemed the original sentence excessive and disproportionate to the circumstances of the case.
Nana Agradaa, a former traditional priestess turned evangelist, was initially convicted on July 3, 2025, by the Accra Circuit Court on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences. The charges stemmed from a 2022 televised broadcast in which she claimed she would distribute GH¢300,000 to the needy during a church service but instead collected money from attendees without fulfilling the promise.
While the High Court upheld her conviction, it exercised discretion to reduce the sentence, citing that the original 15-year term with hard labour was harsh. The revised sentence is to run from the date of her conviction, meaning she is expected to serve a total of 12 months in prison.
The decision has been met with relief by her family, with her husband, Angel Asiamah, expressing his happiness over the reduced sentence.
This ruling marks a significant turn in a high-profile case that has garnered widespread public attention.
