Finance Minister to Outline Cabinet’s Cocoa Reforms in National Address on Feb 12
The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is scheduled to address the nation on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., to present comprehensive reforms approved by the Cabinet aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s cocoa sector.
This announcement follows an emergency Cabinet meeting convened to tackle pressing issues within the cocoa industry, including delayed payments to farmers and financial challenges faced by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, highlighted that the forthcoming reforms represent some of the most significant changes in the sector’s history. He emphasized that these measures are designed to expedite payments to cocoa farmers and shift the industry’s focus towards increased domestic processing of cocoa beans, thereby reducing reliance on raw exports.
The cocoa sector is a cornerstone of Ghana’s economy, contributing significantly to export revenues and rural employment. However, recent challenges, such as delayed payments and financial strains within COCOBOD, have raised concerns about the sector’s sustainability.
Stakeholders and the general public are keenly awaiting the Finance Minister’s address, which is expected to outline the government’s strategic plan to stabilize and transform the cocoa industry.
Nsemgh will provide live coverage of the national address and subsequent analyses of the proposed reforms.
