Kofi Ofosu Nkansah formally charged, scheduled for court on Thursday

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, is set to appear before court on Thursday, February 12, 2026, after being formally charged by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) with publishing false news, his legal counsel has confirmed.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, lawyer for Ofosu Nkansah, said the charge relates to allegations by his client that an individual paid money to secure a government-funded scholarship to study abroad.

“I have just left the BNI. They informed me formally that they will arraign him before the court tomorrow by God’s grace. Because of that, they are not granting him bail,” he said

The arrest follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama instructing the NIB to investigate claims made by Mr. Nkansah regarding alleged improprieties in the award of overseas scholarships. These allegations were made during a discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.

In a statement dated February 3, 2026, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, the Presidency noted that the claims had attracted significant public attention after the Twi-language interview circulated widely across media platforms.

As part of the investigation, NIB officials conducted a search at Mr. Nkansah’s residence on Tuesday before inviting him in to assist with enquiries. The Bureau has yet to issue an official statement on the matter as investigations continue.
