Ghanaian Tomato Traders Caught in Deadly Terrorist Attack in Burkina Faso
A truck transporting Ghanaian tomato traders was ambushed in a terrorist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The Ministry of the Interior and National Security confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, describing the information as “disturbing.”
According to reports, the truck was caught in the crossfire during the attack, resulting in multiple casualties. The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is liaising with local authorities to ascertain the full details and identify the Ghanaian nationals affected.
The President of the Tomato and Onion Truck Drivers Association, Eric Tuffour, recounted the harrowing incident, stating that the terrorists targeted male passengers atop the vehicle, shooting them, while sparing the female passengers. He also mentioned that the driver locked himself inside the vehicle, which was subsequently set ablaze by the attackers.
This tragic event underscores the increasing security challenges faced by traders operating in the Sahel region. The Ghanaian government has initiated diplomatic engagements with Burkinabe authorities to ensure the safety of its citizens and to gather more information about the incident.
