The United States Department of State is set to introduce a new premium visa interview service that will allow certain B1/B2 visitor visa applicants to obtain interview appointments within 10 business days by paying an additional US$750 fee. The pilot programme is scheduled to run from July 1 to December 31, 2026. (AP News)

Under the new arrangement, applicants seeking business (B1) or tourist (B2) visas may choose to pay the optional premium fee on top of the existing visa application fee of US$185. The service will be available only at selected U.S. embassies and consulates, which the State Department is expected to announce before the programme begins. (Envoy Global, Inc)

According to U.S. authorities, the premium service is intended to reduce lengthy visa interview waiting times and provide a faster scheduling option for travellers with urgent business or tourism needs. However, officials emphasize that paying the additional fee does not guarantee visa approval and only provides access to an earlier interview appointment, subject to availability. (AP News)

The announcement is expected to generate significant interest among travellers from countries experiencing long visa interview backlogs, including several African nations where applicants often wait months for appointment dates. (Los Angeles Times)
