ARGENTINA STAGE STUNNING COMEBACK TO SINK EGYPT 3-2 AT WORLD CUP

Argentina survived a huge scare on Tuesday, coming from two goals down to defeat Egypt 3-2 in a World Cup thriller that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
For long spells of the match, it looked like Egypt would pull off one of the tournament’s biggest shocks. The Pharaohs took the lead in the 15th minute and doubled their advantage in the 67th minute, frustrating an Argentina side that dominated possession but could not find a way through a resolute Egyptian defence.
But La Albiceleste refused to give up. With time running out, Lionel Scaloni’s men found another gear. Argentina pulled a goal back in the 79th minute to breathe life into their World Cup campaign, then levelled matters just four minutes later in the 83rd minute to send the game into a nervy finish.
The drama was saved for the very end. In the dying moments of stoppage time, Argentina snatched a dramatic winner to complete the turnaround and secure all three points, 3-2.
Despite Egypt’s resistance, the statistics told the story of Argentina’s overall control: the South Americans enjoyed 61% of possession and fired off 17 shots to Egypt’s 4. Egypt’s discipline broke down late on as the game slipped away from them, with several yellow cards shown in the closing stages.
The result extends Argentina’s unbeaten run at this year’s World Cup and sets up an exciting last-16 clash on July 12, where they will face the winner of another group.
For Egypt, it is a heartbreaking exit after such a promising performance — Mohamed Salah and his teammates will rue missed chances to close out the game when they had it within their grasp.
Argentina’s fans, however, will simply be relieved. Another twist, another comeback, and another step forward in what is shaping up to be a memorable World Cup run.
