How Kristo Asafo mourned Apostle Kwadwo Safo
Thousands of members of the Kristo Asafo Mission from across the country yesterday converged on the Independence Square to pay their last respects to the founder of the church and the Kantanka Group, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, as activities marking the second day of his final funeral rites continued.
The gathering brought together traditional authorities, political figures, relatives, friends and sympathisers who joined the church members in honouring the late Apostle, whose work in engineering, manufacturing and religious leadership spanned several decades.
Among the dignitaries who attended the funeral were the Chief of Nsawam, Okokroko Nana Kwamena Ansah, representing Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Akwamuhene; former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddy Blay; the Director of Legal Affairs of the NPP, Garry Nimako Marfo and the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikem Akurugu.
The day’s activities centred on tributes and traditional funeral rites as family members, church members and mourners reflected on the life, achievements and legacy of Apostle Safo, whose contributions to indigenous technology, engineering and industrialisation earned him national recognition.
Church members, tributes
Members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, who travelled from all regions of the country to attend the funeral, filled the venue, demonstrating their attachment to the man they described as their spiritual leader and mentor.
There were tributes from family members and the children of Apostle Safo, who recounted his commitment to faith, innovation, education and entrepreneurship.
The speakers reflected on his influence within the family, his role in the growth of the Kristo Asafo Mission and his contribution to promoting indigenous technology and manufacturing in Ghana.
Culture
Traditional Ghanaian customs formed an integral part of the day’s activities as mourners observed funeral rites in honour of the late Apostle.
Family members and sympathisers also made funeral donations, while cultural performances accompanied portions of the ceremony.
The three-day funeral programme is expected to climax with the final day’s activities in the Ashanti Region tomorrow, bringing to a close the national farewell for the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group.
