The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced a 15-hour interruption in electricity supply to parts of the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The planned outage will begin at 3:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.
According to GRIDCo, the interruption is necessary to enable its engineers to carry out the next phase of replacement works on a damaged transmission tower along the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema–Achimota transmission line.
The tower was reportedly damaged following a tanker explosion nearby, making urgent repair works necessary to restore the integrity and reliability of the transmission line.
GRIDCo explained that temporarily cutting power is essential to protect its technical personnel and the public while the remaining repair works are undertaken.
The company is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to minimise the impact of the exercise on affected customers and communities.
Residents and businesses within the affected parts of Greater Accra are advised to prepare adequately by charging essential devices, safely disconnecting sensitive electrical equipment and making alternative power arrangements where possible.
GRIDCo apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to the public for patience, understanding and cooperation as it works to complete the critical restoration exercise.
The specific communities to be affected were not listed in the announcement available at the time of publication.
