Mahama Ayariga Confirms Marriage to Ghana’s Youngest MP, Millicent Amankwah Yeboah

Bawku Central Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga has publicly confirmed his marriage to the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Millicent Amankwah Yeboah.

The marriage became public during Mr Ayariga’s appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026, where he was being vetted as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

During the proceedings, Appointments Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor introduced Mr Ayariga’s father-in-law but initially failed to acknowledge the daughter.

Mr Ayariga drew the Chairman’s attention to the omission, saying, “Mr Chairman, you have introduced the father-in-law, but you haven’t introduced the daughter.”

Mr Ahiafor subsequently introduced the Sunyani West legislator as Mr Ayariga’s spouse, formally confirming a marriage that had largely remained outside public attention. (pulse.com.gh⁠, myjoyonline.com⁠)

The revelation generated smiles and applause at the committee hearing, with many Ghanaians expressing surprise that the two sitting legislators were married.

Mr Ayariga indicated that the marriage was recent. However, details concerning the date and venue of the ceremony have not been publicly disclosed.

Mrs Ayariga, born Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, is Ghana’s youngest serving Member of Parliament. She was 32 years old when elected to the Ninth Parliament and turned 34 on July 22, 2026. (parliament.gh⁠, data.ipu.org⁠)

She entered Parliament after defeating former Employment and Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffour-Awuah in the December 2024 parliamentary election to win the Sunyani West constituency for the National Democratic Congress.

Before entering politics, she worked as the Bono Regional Branch Manager of Verna Mineral Water and later served as Managing Director of MEA Connect Consultants.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law in the United Kingdom. She currently serves on Parliament’s Budget Committee and the Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions Committee. (parliament.gh⁠)

The marriage makes Mr Ayariga and Mrs Amankwah Yeboah one of Ghana’s notable political couples, with both serving simultaneously as elected Members of Parliament for different constituencies.

While Mr Ayariga represents Bawku Central and has held several senior political and ministerial positions, Mrs Amankwah Yeboah is building her own political career as a first-term legislator representing Sunyani West.
