Manhyia South MP Detained by EOCO, Lawyer Confirms

Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has confirmed.

Speaking on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Mr Atta Akyea said his client had voluntarily reported to EOCO and cooperated with investigators. He indicated that further questioning was expected on Friday, October 2.

The lawyer questioned the need to keep the legislator in custody overnight, arguing that investigators could allow him to return the following morning.

“What is the value in detaining him overnight? What is the value to the state?” he asked.

Mr Atta Akyea said he would seek his client’s release and suggested that fellow MPs could provide an undertaking to ensure his return for further questioning.

The MP’s appearance followed an arrest warrant issued by the Accra High Court on September 30. The court also authorised searches for documents relevant to the investigation.

The probe concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited. Baffour Awuah has disputed aspects of EOCO’s account of earlier efforts to secure his attendance.

The allegations remain subject to investigation and the legal process. His detention does not establish guilt.
