A new chapter in opposition
The NPP previously held a national officers election at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in 2010 after losing the 2008 general election. Sixteen years later, the party has returned to Kumasi for the same exercise after losing power again. The officers also take charge with the party’s presidential candidate already known, so they will not spend the coming years waiting to learn who will lead the party into 2028. 3news
The elections followed the approval of proposed amendments to the party’s constitution, including changes to the position of party leader while the NPP is in opposition. In all, 14 amendments were approved, among them a provision for three additional National Vice Chairpersons, bringing the total to six, three elected and three appointed. myjoyonline
The new executive now faces the task of uniting the party after a keenly contested race and preparing it for the 2028 general election.
