First United Bank Donates GH¢150,000 to Support Victims of June 29 Accra Floods
First United Bank Ghana has donated GH¢150,000 to the Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association (GUCDA) to support traders affected by the devastating floods that struck parts of Accra on June 29, 2026.
The donation ceremony took place at Kantamanto Market in Accra, where the bank’s Head of Operations, Mr. Ebenezer Appiah, led a delegation of senior colleagues to present the cash donation to the Chairman of GUCDA, Mr. Jeffren Boakye Abrokwah.
The contribution forms part of First United Bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment to supporting communities during times of hardship and helping businesses recover from natural disasters.
Presenting the cheque, Mr. Ebenezer Appiah expressed the bank’s sympathy to all traders and families whose livelihoods were affected by the floods. He noted that the donation reflects First United Bank’s dedication to standing with its customers and the wider Ghanaian community during difficult times.
“At First United Bank, we believe in supporting the communities we serve. We understand the immense losses many traders have suffered, and we hope this contribution will provide some relief and assist in rebuilding their businesses,” he said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of GUCDA, Mr. Jeffren Boakye Abrokwah expressed profound gratitude to First United Bank for the generous gesture. He described the donation as timely and significant, noting that many traders lost goods, equipment and sources of income as a result of the floods.
He praised the bank for demonstrating compassion and solidarity with the affected traders and appealed to other corporate institutions and individuals to emulate the gesture by extending support to flood victims.
The June 29 floods caused extensive damage across several parts of Accra, disrupting businesses, destroying property and leaving many traders counting heavy losses. Kantamanto Market, one of Ghana’s largest commercial hubs, was among the areas affected.
First United Bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national development and responding to humanitarian needs, emphasizing that partnerships between the corporate sector and community organizations are essential in helping affected individuals recover and rebuild.
