‘Listen more and become better’ – Duncan Amoah tells Sammy Gyamfi

The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, has urged the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to pay greater attention to criticism and differing views on the operations of the institution.

Mr Amoah said GoldBod management should take concerns raised by stakeholders seriously as discussions over the board’s operations continue.

He said engaging with differing opinions would help GoldBod identify potential challenges and improve its operations.

“But if you listen more sometimes, you become a better person,” he said.

Speaking on the Big Issues on Channel One TV on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Mr Amoah said the GoldBod CEO would be in a better position to improve GoldBod’s performance by paying attention to views that challenge his position.

“I would hope that after maybe the engagements this weekend, they will get back to work, roll up their sleeves, wherever they are getting funding from,” he said.

His comments come amid a heated debate over the financial performance of GoldBod, following claims by the Minority that the institution’s operations have resulted in losses of about $1.7 billion.

Mr Gyamfi has repeatedly rejected the allegation, insisting that GoldBod has not incurred losses but has instead made profits through its operations. He has described the Minority Leader’s claim as a “barefaced lie.”

Mr Amoah said the ongoing disagreement should not prevent GoldBod’s management from considering criticism as part of efforts to strengthen the institution.

He said GoldBod’s management would ultimately benefit from listening to concerns raised by stakeholders, even when those views contradict its own position
