Ampofo Ankrah Suspended as NSA Boss Amid World Cup Visa Allegations

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has been suspended as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), with Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong appointed to lead the institution in an acting capacity.
The development, reported on Thursday, October 1, 2026, comes amid an ongoing investigation into an alleged visa facilitation arrangement linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to 3News, allegations surrounding the arrangement involve approximately US$623,000 reportedly received from prospective travellers seeking assistance with visas and travel.
Ampofo Ankrah has denied wrongdoing and maintained that he had no knowledge of any arrangement involving the collection of such payments.
The NSA has also denied authorising a visa facilitation scheme or permitting employees to collect money from prospective travellers on its behalf. The Authority says its legal team is cooperating with investigators.
Professor Sarpong, an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Sports at the University of Education, Winneba, takes over while investigations continue.
The leadership change follows the dissolution of the NSA governing board on September 2, 2026.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the suspension does not establish criminal wrongdoing.
