Tyla Wins Second Grammy for Best African Music Performance with “Push 2 Start”
South African pop sensation Tyla has clinched her second Grammy Award, winning Best African Music Performance for her hit single “Push 2 Start” at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The award was announced during the Grammy Premiere Ceremony, where Tyla’s track triumphed over strong contenders including Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”
This marks Tyla’s second consecutive win in the category, following her 2024 victory with the breakout hit “Water,” which made history as the inaugural recipient of the Best African Music Performance award.
In a backstage interview, Tyla expressed her excitement and pride:
“Guys, first of all, Africa. Like, guys, this is insane. This is so insane. I’m just so lucky to be here, and I’m so proud to be African. I’m so proud to be where I’m from, and I hope that everyone is too.”
She also announced that her sophomore album, titled A Pop, is slated for release during the U.S. summer.
The Best African Music Performance category was introduced to spotlight contemporary African music on the global stage, reflecting the continent’s growing influence in the music industry.
Tyla’s win underscores the rising prominence of African artists in the global music scene, as she continues to break barriers and set new standards for excellence.
