Abu Trica released after meeting GH¢30m bail conditions

Papa Kofi Essel, a member of the legal team representing Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has confirmed that his client has been released after fulfilling his bail conditions.

An Accra High Court granted Abu Trica bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr Essel disclosed that Abu Trica secured his release earlier on Friday, May 15, describing the development as a demonstration of the country’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of fundamental human rights.

“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” he said.

Abu Trica had been in police custody since December 2025 following an extradition request by the United States over alleged romance fraud charges.
